There are many handicap car models available on the Egyptian market with prices ranging from 50,000 to 150,000 EGP maximum. A disabled individual may purchase the vehicle of their choice according to their financial means. All they have to do is head to the customs authority and submit the required medical paperwork proving the disability.

Required documents:

 

  • Medical examination form: the applicant must be examined within 6 months to 1 year max before they apply. Cost: 100 EGP.
  • Copy of the national ID card (the original will be examined as well).
  • Submit a letter to the customs authority stating the desired car model and brand along with the medical examination form and copy of national ID card.

Steps to purchase a handicap car:

 

  1. Head to the customs authority to pick out a suitable car for the disabled person’s condition. Write down the car model, specifications, and price.
  2. Payment of 150 EGP for the engine and chassis paperwork.
  3. Payment of 50 EGP to release the car from the customs authority (to be paid at the exit gate).

The new handicap car law:

 

  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
  • The applicant must be an Egyptian citizen.
  • The car’s liter capacity must not exceed 1600cc.
  • The car must be registered under the disabled person’s name.
  • The vehicle’s special equipment must match the specifications set by the Medical Commission’s rules.
  • The car cannot be disposed of in any way before 5 years from date of purchase (also the date it cleared customs) have passed.
  • The applicant must pass the Medical Commission’s examination which ascertains their ability to drive a handicap car.
  • The applicant must obtain a detailed report from the supreme council stating the following:
  1. Percentage of disability
  2. Type and location of the injury.
  3. The degree the applicant needs a handicap car.
  4. The type of special equipment that should be present in the car according to disabled person’s health condition.
  • Obtain a report from the social affairs department stating the applicant’s financial situation as well as if they can afford the supplies needed for the handicap car.
