Best places to have fun, shop, and eat in Turkey in 2022!

Hagia Sophia (pronounced Aya Sofia) Mosque: no entrance fee

Ok so we’re finally in Turkey, now what? Let’s sample delicious Turkish food, shop till we drop, and generally have fun!

Places you NEED to visit in Turkey:

  • Süleymaniye Mosque: it has an amazing view and a pretty sumptuous breakfast as well.
  • Hagia Sophia (pronounced Aya Sofia) Mosque: no entrance fee.
  • Bursa city: about 3 hours away from Istanbul Bursa offers amazing mountain views and skiing opportunities on Mount Uludağ. You can also sample a wonderful variety of jams (some of which you’ve never heard of or even thought of before) or try out their Teleferik both open and enclosed versions.
  • Dolmabahçe Palace (the Sultans’ Palace) located in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul: Built in the 19th century the palace is a marvel of western and Ottoman architecture. It is currently a museum with an entrance fee of 150 Turkish Lira which gives you access to every single room and a recorded tour in the language of your choice.
  • Sapanca city.
  • Princes’ Islands.

  • Taksim Meydani (Taksim square) & Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Street).
  • The Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnici).
  • Rumeli Fortress.
  • Cruise the Bosphorus (also spelled Bosporus) Strait.

When it comes to food the prices differ from one location to another

Sample Turkey’s delicious dishes:

When it comes to food the prices differ from one location to another. Again the closer you are to Taksim square the more expensive it is. For example, a shawarma sandwich can cost between 15-18 Lira in or around Taksim but will cost you around 10 Lira elsewhere.

There are several famous restaurants you can try such as Hatay Medeniyetler Sofrasi (owned by famous chef Burak Ozdemir), and Nusr-Et restaurant, both places are well known and boast their famous clientele. The prices are extravagant: the price of 100gm of steak can reach 400 Lira, and to have a proper meal you may pay anything up to 1500 Lira.

As to other commodities, mineral water is reasonably priced, a small bottle is for 2 Lira and a large one for 4 Lira. Lay’s is for 8 Liras which is less than 10 EGP (compared to its price in Egypt which is 35 EGP that’s a steal!).

If all else fails and you don’t like any of these options you can always go to KFC or McDonald’s. They’re both pretty cheap while the quality is high.

Shopping:

You’ll find many brands such as Polo. LC Waikiki, and DeFacto for very reasonable prices. On the other hand, brands such as ZARA and JAKAMEN are expensive.

Use Faydety to compare and find the best credit card for you as it makes shopping so much easier without worrying about cash.

In addition to how tasty and cheap the food is and how affordable shopping can be one thing you will love about Turkey is the internet speed and quota. 20 GB can cost you around 50 Lira!

Total cost of a trip to Turkey:

A one week (7days/6 nights) trip to Turkey can cost up to 10,000 EGP or less (flights and accommodation included) if you don’t plan on doing a lot of shopping. If you plan on buying a lot of gifts and other items then the trip may cost around 15,000 EGP.
